June 2011 Danish legend Kurt Nielsen passed away. The only Dane to have reached the finals of Wimbledon, Kurt Nielsen, has passed away at the age of 80 on 11 June 2011. Kurt was a much loved person, who remained interested in tennis his whole life. He won the Wimbledon Junior title in 1947 and he also won the French Juniors. He is most famous for having reached the finals of Wimbledon twice. In 1953 he beat Ken Rosewall in the quarterfinals and lost to Vic Seixas in the finals and in 1955 he lost to Tony Trabert in the finals. He won some 50 Danish national titles. He was very active in the IC of Denmark being their President for a long time and lately their honorary President. The tennis world and in particular the Danish IC has lost a great man who will be sorely missed. This comes in addition to the loss last year of another stalwart Dane from the top of the game in the fifties, Jurgen Ulrich, who was an active member of the Danish IC up until his death last year".
