IC of Uruguay win Compass South American Junior Challenge 2017

IC of Uruguay win Compass South American Junior Challenge 2017

The event was held in the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club of Montevideo , Uruguay , and had the participation of teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay .
 
In a very close competition, Uruguay under the leadership of their captain Marcelo Filippini were the champions and qualified for the finals in Tokyo 2018; with the following scores:
5/1 vs. Brazil
4/2 vs. Argentina
And a 4/2 win vs. Chile in the final
 
It was a great experience for all participants and for Uruguay where friendship, competitive spirit , high level tennis and IC values , prevailed. The Sportsmanship Awards were given to Maia Haumuller and Tommy Farjat, both from the IC of Argentina. 
On the Friday, there was also a tennis clinic with the participation of 50 children from the philanthropy program playing side by side with the junior players.
 
Final match : Uruguay 4-2 Chile

Day 1 - Thursday 17th August Results

The first day of play saw some very competitive matches and a high standard of tennis throughout the day. 

Chile beat Argentina: 4-2 

After the singles matches, the teams were all square at 2 matches a piece and so it came down to the doubles to see who would win the tie overall. As both the girls and boys doubles went to a 3rd set match tie-break, it was the Chilean pairings who came out on top in two extremely close matches to win the tie. 

Uruguay  beat Brazil: 5-1   

The home team, the IC of Uruguay showed their strength in some tightly fought matches against the IC of Brazil to come out on top by 5 matches to 1. 
As the teams prepare for the next day, it’s all still to play for! 

Day 2 - Friday 18th August results 
 
Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 
 
For the second day in a row for Argentina, after the singles the teams were all square at 2 matches a piece and so it came down to the doubles to see who would win the overall tie. The IC of Uruguay proved too strong, winning both doubles and claiming the tie. 
 
Chile beat Brazil 4-3 
 
After all the singles and doubles, it was 3 matches a piece, meaning this match would be decided by a mixed doubles 10 point Championship tiebreak. It was the IC of Brazil who came out on top, winning by 11-9! 
 
There was also a Philanthropy Clinic in the morning, which all the Junior players helped out and participated in, which was a hugely successful event.  
 
 
Day 3 - Saturday 19th August results 
 
Uruguay beat Chile 4-2 
 
On the final day, Uruguay continued their fine form to beat Chile and to become the 2017 Champions of the Compass South America Junior Challenge. 


This year, the IC of Uruguay is hosting the Compass South American Junior Challenge at ‘El Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club’ from 16th to 19th August. 

The event brings together the top U16 players from Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Uruguay, and the winners of this series will then be invited to the Compass World Junior Challenge Finals in 2018 in Tokyo. 
The Compass IC Junior Challenge marks a great opportunity for some of the world’s top Juniors to compete at an International level at some of the world’s most prestigious clubs. This year, the Uruguayan team will be captained by Marcelo Filipini. 
Alongside the event and with the help of the Junior competitors, the IC of Uruguay Philanthropy program will also be running a clinic for more than 40 children on the Friday.
